Travel Visas

EU citizens do not need a visa to enter Germany.
Non-EU citizens (Travel Visa not required for US citizens who stay up to 90 days)

Generally speaking, all other visitors need a visa to enter and stay in Germany. Certain countries have visa exemptions for visits up to 90 days in a six month period. This includes US citizens / legal residents. You will find an overview of visa requirements here: Table of countries whose citizens require/do not require visas to enter Germany

HOUSING

There are several possibilities to stay in Berlin during the Summer Acting Program. Housing costs are not included in the tuition fee for the Summer Acting Program. Berlin is one of Europe’s least expensive cities as far as housing and food costs are concerned.

First, you need to decide whether you want to live alone or in a shared apartment. In addition to rental services like airbnb there are a few options that are more affordable, such as:
www.wg-gesucht.de | www.wg-suche.de | www.wgberlin.net | www.wg-liste.de | studenten-wg.de

Typically rent for a room in Berlin is about 350 € (including utilities & WiFi), but it can run up to 500 € depending on location. Housing for a month should not exceed 500 €.

If you are interested in sharing a hostel room with other Program participants, please mention it in your application.

If you’d prefer to stay at a private apartment, consider the websites mentioned above. There are also apartments available on the same street where our school is located and we are currently trying to organize a special deal for Program participants.

LOCATION

Where is the STARTER Berlin Acting School situated exactly?
STARTER, Berliner Schauspielschule Für Film & Fernsehen
Oderberger Strasse 22 10435 Berlin

The school can be reached by subway (lines U2 / U8) or tram (lines M1 / M12). For connections using Berlin public transportation please visit: www.bvg.de

STARTER’s location in the artsy Prenzlauer Berg neighborhood, next to the famous Mauerpark in the old East, guarantees an environment full of excitement and inspiration. Beautiful streets and delicious inexpensive restaurants abound. From here you can easily access the rest of the city. The Prenzlauer Berg and Mitte boroughs are closest to the school but of course Berlin has many fascinating areas where you can stay or spend time, for example the famous Kreuzberg or Neukölln boroughs, only a 20 to 30 min subway ride away.

Other nearby boroughs include Wedding, Tiergarten, Pankow and Charlottenburg, all reachable by subway or via the faster S-Bahn.

If in doubt, you can look up the distance between your apartment and the school using Google Maps or visiting the Berlin Public Transportation Company website.
